About
The Graduate Program in Law (PPGD) at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) was created in 1973 within a spirit of innovation of Graduate Studies in Law in Brazil and has established itself as one of the most reputable in the country. In its evolutionary process, the Master’s Degree Program established lines of research in the areas of (i) Theory and History of Law, (ii) Law and International Relations, and (iii) Law, State and Society. In the Doctoral Degree, to meet the political transformations taking place in the modern society, the area of concentration in Law, Politics and Society was created. Since its inception, the Graduate Program in Law has invested intensely in the training of its Faculty in Brazil and abroad, currently having 27 accredited Doctors as permanent Faculty members and several collaborating and visiting members (national and foreign).
The PPGD emerged as an innovative program, aware of the growing importance of Philosophy and Critical Law and of the international transformations. With an eminently critical epistemological perspective, it aims to prepare and develop professionals/academics endowed with high scientific standards, without, however, disregarding ethical and social responsibility values. Thus, the Graduate Program in Law stands out today in the national and international scenario due to the high reputation that it enjoys among the largest research and teaching centers in Law. Its scope is not limited to the facilities of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), since it offers courses in the capital and in other states of the country. Perfectly integrated with the process of democratization of legal research, it constantly carries out cultural exchange with renowned institutions in Europe and the Americas. In this context, the present website intends to disseminate the main facts and details about the program, such as curriculum structure, faculty members, enrollment procedures, and admission process for both degree programs.
